Our Beliefs
Everything we teach, preach, and practice is rooted in God’s Word and centered on Jesus Christ.
At Oconee Heights Baptist Church, we believe the Bible is God’s truth and our foundation for faith and life. Our beliefs are centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the hope of eternal life for all who trust in Him.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is God’s Word, fully trustworthy, and the foundation for what we believe and how we live.
God
We believe there is one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God the Father
We believe God the Father rules over His creation with wisdom, power, and love. He is working through history according to His perfect will and grace. Through faith in Jesus Christ, believers are adopted into His family and know Him as Father.
God the Son
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, perfectly obeyed the Father, and died on the cross in our place to redeem us from sin.
God the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God and is active in the word today. He points people to Christ, convicts of sin, and leads believers in truth. He empowers the church to worship, serve, and share the gospel.
Humanity
We believe every person is created by God in His image and has great value in His sight. God created people as male and female, the crowning work of His creation. Because of sin, humanity is separated from God and in need of redemption.
Salvation
We believe salvation is God’s gift of grace to all who repent of sin and place their faith in Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made the full payment for our sin and secured eternal redemption for all who trust in Him.
The Church
We believe the church is the local body of baptized believers who gather to worship God, grow in His Word, encourage one another, and serve together in His name.
Baptism
We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water and an act of obedience to Christ. It is a public picture of faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, symbolizing the believer’s old life being buried and a new life beginning in Christ.
Family
We believe God created the family as a gift and foundation for human society. Marriage is the covenant union of one man and one woman for life. Husband and wife are equal in value before God, and children are a blessing from the Lord. Parents are called to raise their children in a way that honors God and points them to His truth.
