Prayer Beginnings – Learning to Not Miss the Point

LEARNING TO NOT MISS THE POINT

What if prayer is about joining a bigger story?

“We never know how God will answer our prayers, but we can expect that He will get us involved in His plan for the answer. If we are true pray-ers, we must be ready to take part in God’s work on behalf of the people for whom we pray.” – Corrie Ten Boom

He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be answered. –  Proverbs 21:13

This is harsh language and at first can cause us to see God again as a tyrant and not a good father.  But what if prayer is not just about getting things from God? What if it is about joining Him? Prayer exists to align ourselves entirely with God, our desires and passions as well as our lifestyle. Every request we make to God should also come with a declaration of surrender, “Not my will but Yours be done.” This is the fullness of Christian prayer because it re-orients us around being a part of God’s answer to the world’s problems and not just wanting answers to our own. In all of our asking and petitioning, we must never lose sight of the fact that as much as God desires to answer our prayers He also desires to use us to answer the prayers of others.
